COMPUTER LEARNING FOUNDATION RELEASES COMPUTER LEARNING 2000
Apple Computer Provides Funding for the Computer
Learning Foundation's
Annual Publication Emphasizing Community and Responsibility
PALO ALTO, Calif., (August 23, 1999)&emdash;The Computer Learning Foundation announced today the release of Computer Learning 2000, the Foundation's annual publication. Apple Computer provided the funding this year to enable the Computer Learning Foundation to distribute over 250,000 copies of Computer Learning 2000 free of charge to thousands of parents, educators and other adults and to most schools in the United States and Canada through their state department or ministry of education.
As the Computer Learning Foundation's emphasis this year is on Community and Responsibility: Starting the New Millennium Right, Computer Learning 2000 opens with a feature article on the importance of taking responsibility for ourselves, our children and our communities. The article also provides suggestions on ways to accomplish this and suggested activities for Computer Learning Month in October. Computer Learning 2000 also includes complete information and rules for the very popular Computer Learning Month contests which follow the Foundation's theme (see separate Computer Learning Month contests release) and a catalog of Foundation resource materials to help parents and educators use technology with children, including several new materials that focus on using technology safely and responsibly, such as the Chip & Friends CD-ROM (see separate release), and many new resources to help teachers integrate the use of computers and the Internet effectively into the curriculum.
A free copy of Computer Learning 2000 may be downloaded in pdf format at the Foundation's Web site <http://www.computerlearning.org> or may be obtained by mail by writing to: Computer Learning Foundation, Dept. ED99, P.O. Box 60007, Palo Alto, CA 94306-0007. (Computer Learning 2000 is mailed by bulk mail. To receive a copy by first class mail, send a self-addressed envelope with 77¢ postage.)
The Computer Learning Foundation, based in Sunnyvale, California, is an international nonprofit educational foundation dedicated to the improvement of education and preparation of youth for the work place through the use of technology. Foundation programs provide parents and educators with the information, resources and assistance they need to use technology effectively with children. The Foundation is the official host each October of Computer Learning Month, a month-long focus on the important role technology plays in our lives and a major national grass roots educational effort, and the Our Town Initiative in which children work with others in their community on the development of a Web site for their town. The Computer Learning Foundation is endorsed by and collaborates with 56 U.S. State Departments and Canadian Ministries of Education and 26 national non-profit organizations; however, the Foundation is funded by corporate and individual donations.
